Trauma
Trauma may occur from experiencing one event or it could accumulative over many years. Regardless, the experience of trauma can leave someone feeling restless. Often, they can feel like they are reliving the past as if it is in the present. For others, they may have coped with it by detaching themselves from the event but may feel numb and disconnected from themselves and the world.
Know that with support to revisit these events that these memories can lose its power. A common form of treatment for trauma is called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can help the brain to reintegrate the traumatic memory in an adaptive manner.
