Depression & Anxiety
Low mood, loss of appetite, loss of pleasure in day-to-day life. These are some common symptoms of those experiencing depression. Depression is an expression of something within that deserves attention. Counselling involves looking at contributing factors to depressed mood, underlying emotions that may be fueling it, and practical skills to move forward.
In our fast-paced society, anxiety seems to become more prevalent. It may involve feeling on edge and restless. Often, people describe having a racing mind that anticipates worst case scenarios. Anxiety can also occur with panic attacks where one’s heart rate increases, with difficulties breathing. Counselling involves tracking contributing stressors and practicing skills like mindfulness.
Overall, if you notice having frequent changes in mood or experiencing difficulties in managing your emotions, counselling is a space to slow down and put words to the feelings that are driving your reactions. In doing so, you can come to pay attention to the full array of thoughts and feelings in your life – this is a crucial step in experiencing life to the full.
